Library Instruction/Orientation

Library Instruction/Orientation is offered to classes that require a complete composition essay that requires at least three or more scholarly peer reviewed academic resources from various Library databases.  The Instruction/Orientation is general but can be adapted to meet the needs of the individual course and/or the assignment requiring Library research.

English 101 and 102 Instructors are encouraged to arrange Library Instruction/Orientation with a Librarian, at least 2 weeks in advance, for classes (day and evening) if and only if a complete written composition is required with the use of scholarly peer reviewed academic resources and bibliographic citations from online Library databases. The 20 to 30 minute session will educate students on how to access the Library resources available in print and online collections which includes database access through Calhoun Community College Libraries and the Alabama Virtual Library.

Instructional Videos/Online Tutorials, and eReference Guides for several of the online databases are available from the Calhoun Library Website.  Access to Library resources are also available through Blackboard.  Off campus accessed to databases requires the same login as MyCalhoun.
To schedule Library Instruction/Orientation for a class, please call, email, or come by the reference desk.

For Distance Learning Classes, introductions to the Calhoun Libraries, Instructional Videos and Database Tutorials are located on the Calhoun Library's Youtube Channel. Database eReference guides are located on the Library's Guides Webpage.
