What is Information Literacy (Information Comptency)?

Information is available from many sources and in many formats, such as printed text, multimedia, library databases, Web sites, and more. To be 'information literate' you need to know why, when, and how to use all of these tools and think critically about the information they provide.

You will not become 'information literate' or 'information competent' overnight. Just as with public speaking skills and writing skills, your abilities will improve over time as you practice searching, selecting, and evaluating the information and ideas you encounter.

Since the Web has become a common resource of information and communication, we have chosen to include it as a research topic in TILT.
