Databases

Database: an organized collection of information, usually pertaining to a particular subject

Think of databases as electronic and digital filing systems. They must be highly organized for people to easily find the information they need.

There are many different databases. The most common type you will encounter in the library is an online database, which points you to articles published in magazines, journals, and newspapers. The most generally useful online databases for Calhoun students are the EBSCOhost Academic Search Premier and Business Source Premier.

Each year millions of articles are published in periodicals, many of which are indexed in periodical databases. Thousands of full-text articles can be found in online databases.

When you search an online database you will always get a citation, which includes the article author, article title, magazine or journal title, and date. Usually you will also find abstracts and often the full text of articles.
