Students receive one renewal and Faculty, Staff and Administration receive six renewals on most items. Since the New, Gift and Leased books collections are limited, there are no renewals on these items. You can renew books by telephone or My Account. To renew items by My Account, go to the Library's Online Catalog then click on My Account. Enter your barcode number and pin. The pin is the last 4 digits of the telephone number that you provided on your borrower application. Click on “Items Out”. Then check each item that you would like renewed and click the renew button. The items will be renewed as long as they meet the criteria for renewal. The new due date will appear next to the item.
Note: New, Gift and Leased items cannot be renewed. Additionally, books may only be renewed one time online via "My Account."
Students: If your record has been placed on Academic Hold, you will not be allowed to renew books until the delinquency is settled.
24-hr, 3-day, 7-day reserve items: $.50 per day/item
Interlibrary loan: $1 per day/item
You will receive a due date receipt when you check out material. Two additional notices will be sent once an item is overdue. The first notice will be sent seven (7) days after the item is overdue. You will be notified that the items are overdue. If the item is not returned, on the 14th day the item is overdue a second notice will be sent. You will be informed that you are being billed for the replacement cost of the item. Students will be placed on Academic Hold. If the item is still not returned on the 21st day that the item is overdue, then you will be sent a bill for the replacement cost of the item plus a $10.00 per item fee for processing. Once an Academic Hold has been placed on the borrowers record, it is the responsibility of the borrower to return the items or pay the late fee before checking out additional library materials. Check out will not be permitted without payment of fees.
Users can borrow books from either campus library via Intra-Library Loan by completing the Intra-Library Loan Request Form. During the regular semester, books will be forwarded between campus libraries for pick-up the day following receipt of the request at the campus library holding the book. This service is limited to Monday through Thursday. Books requested on Thursday will generally be available on Monday. Telephone the circulation desk at the Huntsville Campus Library (256-890-4774) or Brewer Library in Decatur (256-306-2774) to verify that a library book is available for pick-up.
Regular borrowing policies apply for items borrowed through Intra-Library Loan.
First, check to see if the title is held electronically in one of the online, full-text electronic databases. Between the magazines, journals, and newspapers available online, there are thousands of journals and newspapers available electronically in full-text at the Huntsville Campus Library.
A paper list of the Brewer Library magazine and journal holdings, along with indexes and bibliographies such as Short Story Explication have been placed in the collection at the Huntsville Huntsville Campus Library. You may locate citations in the index and verify if a particular title is held at the Brewer Library before making a special trip to the Decatur Campus. To determine literary titles held at Brewer Library, search the List of Literary Titles.
